MERIDIAN studio workspace at night
Our practice

We design and build in the same room. The person who sketches the logo is the person who ships the code. That gap — between craft and execution — is where most projects die.

MERIDIAN was founded in 2014 by a small group of designers and engineers who had watched too many good ideas die in the handoff between disciplines. We wanted to build a studio where the gap did not exist — where the people who imagined the work were the people who built it, and where every decision, from the typeface to the deploy, was made with care.

Eleven years later, that principle still holds. We are still small — deliberately so. We take on a handful of engagements each year, staff each one with a partner, and ship work we are willing to put our name on. We do not sub-contract. We do not offshore. We do not ship work we are not proud of.

The result is a body of work that spans brand identity, web and product design, motion, and editorial — for clients who think in decades, not quarters. We are based in Berlin and Lisbon, but we work with teams everywhere.

02 — Principles

What we believe.

Four principles that shape every engagement — from the first sketch to the final commit.

/ 01

Craft is a discipline

Craft is not a polish you apply at the end. It is a way of working that begins with the first sketch and ends with the last commit. We do not ship work we have not cared for.

/ 02

Designers should code

The gap between design and engineering is where most projects fail. We close it by doing both — in-house, in concert, with the same people sketching and shipping.

/ 03

Restraint is a feature

The strongest work happens when nothing can be removed without losing meaning. We edit until the design feels inevitable — and then we edit once more.

/ 04

Systems outlast artifacts

A logo fades; a system adapts. We build visual languages and codebases flexible enough to live across formats, teams, and decades.

03 — Process

How the work happens.

Every engagement is staffed by a partner. We do not sub-contract. The people who pitch the work are the people who do the work.

/ 01

Listen

A two-week immersion: interviews, audits, and a written brief that both sides sign off on. No design begins until we agree on what we are solving.

·
/ 02

Map

We sketch the territory — competitive landscape, audience, voice, the unspoken instincts that shape a brand. Then we propose directions.

·
/ 03

Make

Two or three directions explored in depth, narrowed to one, refined until it sings. We share weekly and keep the conversation tight.

·
/ 04

Ship

A documented system — not just files. Guidelines, templates, codebases, and a launch call with whoever will carry the work forward.

·

04 — People

The people who do the work.

No juniors. No handoffs. The people you meet on day one are the people who ship the work.
